ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜੀ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

dukh bhanjan. teraa naam jee; dukh bhanjan. teraa naam |

दुख भंजनु. तेरा नामु जी; दुख भंजनु. तेरा नामु ॥

The Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name, Lord; the Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name.

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉੁ ॥

aatth pehar aaraadheeai; pooran satigur giaan |1| rahaau |

आठ पहर आराधीऐ; पूरन सतिगुर गिआनु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Twenty-four hours a day, dwell upon the wisdom of the Perfect True Guru. ||1||Pause||

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ-ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਜਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਥਾਉੁ ॥

jit ghatt vasai paarabraham; soee suhaavaa thaau |

जितु घटि वसै पारब्रहमु; सोई सुहावा थाउ ॥

That heart, in which the Supreme Lord God abides, is the most beautiful place.

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਥਾਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਜਮ ਕੰਕਰੁ ਨੇਿੜ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉੁ ॥੧॥

jam kankar. nerr na aavee; rasanaa har gun gaau |1|

जम कंकरु. नेड़ि न आवई; रसना हरि गुण गाउ ॥१॥

The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord with the tongue. ||1||

ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁੱਕਦਾ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥

ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਆ ਨਾ ਜਾਪੈ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥

sevaa surat. na jaaneea; naa jaapai aaraadh |

सेवा सुरति. न जाणीआ; ना जापै आराधि ॥

I have not understood the wisdom of serving Him, nor have I worshipped Him in meditation.

ਮੈਂ (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਾ ਜਾਣੀ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਝਿਆ,

ਓਟ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ॥੨॥

ott teree jagajeevanaa; mere tthaakur agam agaadh |2|

ओट तेरी जगजीवना; मेरे ठाकुर अगम अगाधि ॥२॥

You are my Support, O Life of the World; O my Lord and Master, Inaccessible and Incomprehensible. ||2||

ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਪਰ ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਸਾਈਆ ਨਠੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥

bhe kripaal gusaaeea; natthe sog santaap |

भए क्रिपाल गुसाईआ; नठे सोग संताप ॥

When the Lord of the Universe became merciful, sorrow and suffering departed.

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਆਪਿ ॥੩॥

tatee vaau. na lagee; satigur rakhe aap |3|

तती वाउ. न लगई; सतिगुरि रखे आपि ॥३॥

The hot winds do not even touch those who are protected by the True Guru. ||3||

ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸੋਗ-ਸੰਤਾਪ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਸੇਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥

ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਦਯੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

gur naaraaein. day gur; gur sachaa sirajanahaar |

गुरु नाराइणु. दयु गुरु; गुरु सचा सिरजणहारु ॥

The Guru is the All-pervading Lord, the Guru is the Merciful Master; the Guru is the True Creator Lord.

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੭੦॥

gur tutthai. sabh kichh paaeaa; jan naanak. sad balihaar |4|2|170|

गुरि तुठै. सभ किछु पाइआ; जन नानक. सद बलिहार ॥४॥२॥१७०॥

When the Guru was totally satisfied, I obtained everything. Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||4||2||170||

ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੭੦॥
