ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਮਹਾਨ ਮੰਤਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਅਸਲ ਸਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

॥ ਜਪੁ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਇਸ ਇਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਦਿਖਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਜਪ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਸੱਚ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਯੁੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਦਾ ਸੱਚ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਸਮਾਂ ਬਦਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਦਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਦਲਦਾ।

ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਫਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੱਚ ਹੀ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ, ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਸਭ ਅਸਥਾਈ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਉਸ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥

The Mool Mantar introduces the timeless qualities of the One Creator. Guru Nanak Dev Ji teaches that God is One, Eternal, Fearless, Without Enmity, Beyond birth and death, and self-existent. These divine qualities remind us that the Creator alone is permanent while everything else in the world is temporary.
